Paw Paw

Jim passed away Thursday morning, July 12, 2012 at his home after a brief illness. He was born February 3, 1925 in Hinsdale, IL the son of the late Peter Hans and Jennie Petri (Meyer) Madison. Jim serviced in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Combat Engineer and with the Army of Occupation Forces, Japan. Before moving to Michigan Jim was a contractor in Illinois and enjoyed building homes. He and his wife, Betty owned and operated a Montgomery Wards Catalog Sales in Paw Paw, Three Rivers and Dowagiac for many years until their retirement. He enjoyed farming especially growing pumpkins for Halloween and operating with his wife “Granny Goodwitches Pumpkin Patch” selling pumpkins and produce in the fall. On July 29, 1950 in Hinsdale, IL Jim was united in marriage to Elizabeth Marie Lossie who preceded him in death on July 31, 2004. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Helen Lanphear and Florence Kitzmiller, and 2 brothers, David and Richard Madison. Surviving are 2 daughters, Diane (David) Mihelich and Linda (Bill) Britt both of Paw Paw; son, Ken Madison of Paw Paw; 4 grandchildren, Michelle Markham, Michael Mihelich, Travis Britt, and Ashley Britt; 5 great grandchildren, Erin Britt, Ainsley Markham, Anakin Markham, Sadie Britt, and Emma Britt; 2 sisters-in-law, Anita Madison of Paw Paw and Alda Madison of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where funeral services will be held Monday (7/16), 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Ron Packer officiating. Interment will follow at Cuddeback Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or the Arthritis Foundation.
