Brian passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, April 11, 2012 at his home. Brian was born March 17, 1936 in South Haven, MI the son of the late Joseph A. and Eunice C. (Beatty) Maurig. He was employed at Kalamazoo Valley Community College as a computer specialist until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the S.W. Michigan Council for Tourism, and the Hartford Alumni Board. He had many friends, was a practical joker who had a great sense of humor. Brian coached youth baseball, was very mechanical and enjoyed tinkering (Mr. Fixit), animals, photography, and computers. On December 8, 1955 in Bangor, Brian was united in marriage to Phyllis M. Wiles who preceded him in death on January 17, 2006. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Kenneth Staunton; 3 brothers, John, David and Tommy Munjo, and 1 sister, Sue Ellen Munjo. Surviving are a son, Brian Maurig, Jr. of Garrett, IN; 3 daughters, Marian Maurig of Kalamazoo, Connie Maurig of Paw Paw and Christine (Daniel) Staunton of Lawrence; 8 grandchildren, Nicole, Brian, Aimee, B.J., Jeff, Stephen, William and Martin; 3 great grandchildren, Lilly, Jackson and Brody; sister, Vickie Peterson of Kansas City, KS; step-mother, Elsie Maurig of St. Joseph; many nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation as per his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service for family and friends will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or directed to the family.
