David B. Smith, 64, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born June 20, 1950 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late David and Dorothy (Laskovy) Smith. David was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Viet Nam War. He enjoyed nature, animals, landscaping, gardening, watching and feeding birds. On February 2, 1988, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Wasylecki who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Anthony Romanak of Missouri and Shawn White of Portage; four grandchildren, Magan Guritz of Kalamazoo, Carly White of Paw Paw, Lukas and Samantha Grimm both of Lawton; a sister, Judy (Robert) Surdy of Paw Paw; five sisters-in-law, Kathleen Pitcher, Theresa Wasylecki, Linda Truax, Eileen Wasylecki and Charlene Treadway; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Kathleen Brusach. He was loved and will be missed by everyone. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will full military honors will be announced in the near future. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
