Doug passed away quietly after a short illness. He spent the last few weeks of his life at his happy place, Hemlock Lake in Southwest Michigan.
He joined his wife, Renee Johnson, in Heaven on Saturday, June 21, 2025. He leaves behind his children, Greg (Jennifer) Kitzmiller and Melinda (Hunter) Leake, his grandchildren, Hope (Jeremiah) Kavos, Kara (Luke) Labbe Lane, and Jennifer (Charles Burden) Kitzmiller, and great-grandchildren, Victoria Kavos, Vanelope Kavos, Jameson Kavos, and Lucy Labbe Lane.
He trained hundreds of helicopter students over the years. Each one became a friend in a special way. Most call him family.
Memorial services will be held in Michigan at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, located on M-40 in Lawton, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025.
A memorial service will be held in Punta Gorda, FL, at a date to be announced.
