Frank Matthew Hosh, age 89, of Paw Paw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 2, 1936, in Paw Paw, he was the youngest of five children of Steven and Eva (Komarck) Hosh. Frank attended St. Phillip Catholic School and began working at the family’s restaurant, Hosh’s Grill, at age 8— peeling potatoes before school, then honing his culinary talents as a teen.
After two years at the University of Notre Dame, he returned to help run the Grill with his mother. In his mid‑20s, Frank moved to Los Angeles to join his eldest brother, Steven. There, he built a career as an executive chef with a catering company and served as a security guard at Fox Studios. In LA, Frank met the love of his life, and the couple eventually made Tucson, Arizona, their home until his partner’s passing in 2019. That loss brought Frank back to Michigan to be with family, where those of us who loved him were grateful for his stories, jokes, and boundless affection.
Frank was preceded in death by siblings Steven Hosh, Joseph Hosh, Margaret (Peter) Brusach, and Louise Golden; his long‑time partner, Joseph Merrit; niece Katherine (Brusach) Kucinich and nephew David Brusach.
His warmth, optimism, and gentle nature made him a beloved presence in every community he touched. Frank leaves behind devoted family: nieces and nephews, Celine (Bob) Lanting, Steve (Barbie) Golden, Phillip (Diane) Clay, Michael (Rachelle) Hosh, and Renee Hosh; close family, NaDean (David) Johnson, Renae (Todd) Jones, Stephanie (Trevor) Klimek, Elizabeth Kucinich, Brian Brusach, Kimberly Boyea, Scott (Sarah) Lanting. He also leaves a dear friend, Walter Ormonde, who now carries the honorary title of “Uncle”. A heartfelt thank-you to Patty, Norma, Shelley, Kathy, Linda, Cheryl, John, and all the friends at Miller Court who brightened his days.
A private service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek. In honor of Frank’s love for hibiscus, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his name toward planting hibiscus shrubs—or that you plant one in your memory wherever Frank held a special place in your heart.
