George Lantie Cole, 91, of Lawton, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo with his family by his side.
He was born on January 16, 1935, in Cool Ridge, West Virginia, the son of Howard and Icie Cole.
George bravely served his country in the United States Air Force where he witnessed 22 atomic tests in Eniwetok Atoll during Operation Hardtack.
He was a proud member of the Local UAW 488. He dedicated 25 years to General Motors where he was a die setter and committeeman.
On December 27, 1973, he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Mable (Lester) Cole, until she passed in 2022.
Together, they enjoyed raising their children and watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.
He is survived by his children from a previous marriage, Tim, Patty, and Keith; 2 stepsons, Mike and Larry; and daughter Deborah (Carl) Talmage; along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son, Michael.
The family members would like to thank those that made sure he was fed dinner every day at 5pm sharp!
Cremation has taken place, and George will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date, where he will be given full military honors.
