Gerald Dee Sherburn, 89 of Mattawan, passed away peacefully February 18, 2021 at Rose Arbor Hospice. Gerald was born October 2, 1931 to the late William and Areta (Jones) Sherburn. Gerald is one of 13 children. Three brothers preceded him in death, William Jr., Dale and Richard Sherburn. He is survived by his nine siblings, Donna (late Ray) Huddleston, Charles (Mary) Sherburn, Patricia (Dave) Berner, Sharon (Don) Saidla, Joyce (James) Dickerson, Connie (Ronnie) Osborne, Judy Skidmore, Gary (Diane) Sherburn and Pamela (Roger) Beadle. Gerald is also survived by his two children, Kim (late Frank) Sage and Tad Sherburn, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Gerald enlisted in the Army on October 18, 1948. He was trained at Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky. He served in the C 34th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War in Japan. He married Maxine (Sheldon) Sherburn on April 30, 1955. Gerald was a member of the Mattawan Masonic Lodge and was also a Master Mason. Gerald had a great career in road construction. He worked for many years for Globe Road Construction. After many promotions, Gerald was plant manager. Following the sale of Globe, he was employed by Thomas & Sons Road Construction. Gerald also worked for Duo Tang products. In his retirement, he enjoyed working as a self-employed handyman.

Services were held privately. There will be am open house later this summer. The date will be forthcoming.
