Harold passed away Saturday evening, April 30, 2011 at the home of his daughter. He was born May 5, 1920 in Battle Creek the son of the late Jacob and Mammie (Pooley) Tomb. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the India-Burma Campaign and in Central Burma. He was employed at Neil's Automotive until his retirement. Harold was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion, McGowan-Johnson Post #68, Paw Paw; American Legion Past Commanders Club and the Post #68 State Champion Color Guard Team; a member of the V.F.W., Harold J. Payette Post #565 in Battle Creek; and the Southwest Michigan Fly-wheelers Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and old engine shows. On September 5, 1942 in Plainwell, Harold was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Strong who preceded him in death on December 16, 1989. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Tomb and a sister, Marie Towne. Surviving are 2 daughters, Judy Veitenheimer and Carol Weston both of Newaygo, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great; sister, Grace M. Stratton of Kalamazoo and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Wednesday Evening, May 4, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. Interment will follow with military honors at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartland Hospice of Newaygo.
