Helen Ruth Mills

Helen Ruth Mills, 92, of Lawton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at White Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton.

She was born February 18, 1933, in Paw Paw, Michigan, the daughter of Gilbert LeRoy Shank and Blanche Marie (Scott) Shank.

Helen was known for her welcoming spirit and kindness towards others. She was a devoted member of St Paul's United Methodist Church and East Van Buren County Seniors. Helen was employed at the Upjohn Company for a total twenty-seven years. She enjoyed reading, cooking and sewing. Above all else, Helen adored her family and will be deeply missed.

On September 1, 1951, at Almena United Methodist Church, she married the love of her life, Richard Lee Mills, who preceded her in passing on December 17, 2023.

She is survived by her four sons, Thomas LeRoy (Wendy) Mills, Steven Larry (Rebecca) Mills, Gregory Linton (Denise) Mills and Kevin Lee (Delores) Mills; she is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, grandson, Joshua Aaron Mills and siblings, Betty Maxine Williams, Fred Charles Shank, Neva Marie Alton and Hazel Ann Scott.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St Paul's United Methodist Church, 63855 M-40 Highway, Lawton. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors Sheila Baker and Ashlei Horn officiating.

There will be a Luncheon afterwards.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Centrica Care Navigators or to Saint Paul's United Methodist Church.

Richard and Helen will be laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
