James "Jim" Nufer, 79, of Paw Paw, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home on the morning of October 6, 2026.

He was born on February 27, 1947, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Wesley Nufer and Jennie (Verbeek) Nufer.

If you knew Jim (which was almost everyone) you would know he was a classic car enthusiast. He could be seen at every local car show with his beautiful blue 1957 Chevy Bel-Air. Jim and his close buddies traveled across country multiple times on the Hot Rod Power Tours and other long distance events. Jim could fix just about anything and he loved doing projects in his house and garage. Jim was known as the neighborhood handy man and was called often to help his neighbors. Jim never minded, he enjoyed helping others, especially his neighbors.

Jim married the love of his life, Deborah Holub, on May 4, 1974. They spent 52 wonderful years together. During the cold Michigan winters, Jim and Debbie enjoyed spending time at their Florida condo.

Jim's granddaughters were the center of his universe. From taking them to car shows when they were young to watching them play sports, Jim was heavily involved in their lives. They truly held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah (Holub) Nufer; daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Rhodes and Lindsay (Rich) Hiler; granddaughters, Corinne Hiler, Kit Hiler, and Carly Rhodes; brother and sister in law, Dean and Char Holub; nephew, Mike Holub; niece, Kristin (Steve) Giebel; sister, Judi Shonacher and brother, Tim Nufer.

Jim was preceded in passing by his parents.

In accordance with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of Jim's life with a commemorative car cruise in the spring/summer.
