Joan Nancy Spiech, age 76, of Paw Paw, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025. She was born on March 4, 1949, the beloved daughter of the late Walter and Marjorie (Whyment) Spiech.
Joan is survived by her brothers Walter (Julie) Spiech, James Spiech, and Steve (Robin) Spiech, and her sister Kathy Houtman. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, David Houtman. She will be fondly remembered by her extended family and friends.
She enjoyed her time in independent living at Maple Lake Senior Living, where she was a friendly and familiar face at bingo nights and other community events. She had a deep love for the magic of Disney and treasured her trips to Disney World. Another favorite destination was Chicago, where she loved taking the train and visiting the American Girl store—a special part of her life reflected in her thoughtfully assembled collection of American Girl dolls and accessories.
Joan’s dog, Mindy, was her constant companion, and she took pride in caring for her and enjoying their daily walks together. One of Joan’s greatest joys was Christmas—so much so that she celebrated it all year long. Her home sparkled with three beautifully decorated Christmas trees that stayed up regardless of the season, and she delighted in anything festive, from ornaments to holiday music and movies. She especially looked forward to attending the annual Christmas parade, a tradition that brought her great joy and captured her love of holiday spirit.
Joan also celebrated the fall season each year with a visit to pick out the perfect pumpkin—something she never missed. She also enjoyed watching the occasional deer or bird outside her window, but it was her love of her siblings and the little joys in life that defined her life.
Joan’s warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed. A private family service will be held.
