John Joseph Megdan passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026.

John was born on September 20, 1937, in Noranda, Quebec Canada. He lived in Montreal, Quebec and Windsor, Ontario before immigrating to the United States where he resided in Detroit Michigan in 1955. John was the son of John Anthony and Katherine Megdan. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol Megdan for over 56 years. He is the loving father of John William Megdan (Jackie) and Heidi Gautz. Proud Grandfather to John Paul Megdan (Kaytlyn), Grace Megdan, Gretchen Gautz and the Great Grandfather to Rylee Megdan.

John was a graduate of Detroit Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a registered professional engineer in the state of Michigan. He worked for the General Motors company and the Boeing Company, before finally joining the Ford Motor Company. During his time at Ford Motors, he held various management and executive engineering positions in the automotive assembly division and body and chassis engineering departments in car product development before retiring in 1999.

John was a past member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Engineering Society of Detroit. After retirement he was a member of the Ford Retired Engineering Executive Club.

John was a true sports enthusiast, participating in hockey, downhill skiing, water skiing, golf, boating, fishing, and camping. He loved participating in activities with his children and grandchildren, spending many days coaching, teaching, attending horse shows, as well as traveling, and taking lots of photos along the way.

John was a member of the RSPI over 50 hockey groups playing hockey all year round for the past 21 years and played golf and tennis and coached minor hockey teams for over 20 years. John and his wife Carol continued their participation with the Skiwi Alumni in Travels to Europe, camping trips throughout Michigan and Canada and sharing many dinners and get togethers.

John was also passionate about photography, stamp and coin collecting, gardening, household projects, and working at his daughter’s horse farm. He and his wife loved traveling and camping with their RV’s for over 44 years. Their travels took them to almost every state in the US and to many Provinces of Canada. They also traveled to many European countries as well as Africa and Australia. One of Johns’s favorite trips was to visit the birthplace of his father in a small village near Krakov, Poland.

John was preceded in death by his late wife, Carol Megdan; his parents, John and Katherine Megdan, and his sister Helen Altenhof.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N. Haggerty Road, Plymouth, MI 48170, 734-420-0288, . A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a.m. There will be a luncheon following the Mass at the church.
