Paw Paw

Larry Allan Pierce of Paw Paw, Michigan, passed away at Maple Lake Assisted Living on October 22, 2023, due to a complication of Covid.

Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on October 10th to the late Lyle and Beatrice (Harrison) Pierce. After graduating from Portage High School in 1964, Larry joined the Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War. Upon learning of another chap proposing to my mother, he promptly returned to Kalamazoo for a quick leave and popped the question. While on leave he wed Linda Sue Fogleson on October 15, 1966, and after a few days of honeymoon shipped out for service. Larry and Linda had two children Paige (Richard) Warner and Willard Corey Pierce whom they were very proud of. Sadly, after 56 years of marriage, he lost the love of his life, Linda, only a few months ago.

Larry had a long successful career at National Water Lift, now Parker Aerospace, in the aeronautical field and climbed the ladder to eventually become a hydraulic engineer. He loved his job and the many people he connected with at work and during his travels. His career allowed him to visit many countries and along with his military service, he would boast about traveling to over 60 countries. He especially loved the Middle East and his time in Turkey and Israel because of the rich religious history. Because of his special clearance, he was allowed access to places in Israel that most tourists were not able to visit. He was especially troubled recently by the violence and destruction of sites in Israel where he had spent time.

He is survived by his loving daughter Paige (Richard) Warner of Mattawan, Michigan, and son Willard Corey Pierce of Navarre, Florida; his two grandchildren Nicklas Warner and Courtney (Zourtney) Pierce; his brother Al (Sharon) Sikkenga; and their daughters Michelle (Rick) Bogren, Kimberly (Jeff) Moore and Marcie (Tom) Copeland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Beatrice, his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Pierce, and a sister Nancy Leonard.

Our family is thankful for the caring staff at Maple Lake Assisted Living as it made dad more comfortable in his final days. A Catholic burial mass will take place on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church at 11 a.m. in Mattawan, with Rev. Fr. Alan P. Jorgensen officiating. Interment will be immediately following at Hope Cemetery in Texas Corners.
