Linda Ray Hurst

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Linda Ray Hurst on August 2, 2026. Born May 20, 1946, to Ivan and Mary Jane Ray, she was the beloved wife of James E. Hurst, with whom she shared 60 years of love, laughter, and adventure.

Linda was known for her joyful spirit and infectious personality. Always the life of the party, she welcomed everyone with a warm smile, quick wit, and genuine kindness. An exceptional cook, she expressed her love through food, and no one left her home without a full heart and a full stomach.

As a teacher and an office manager, she approached every role with dedication, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others.

Linda and Jim shared a passion for travel and adventure. They once drove their beloved Model A to the Arctic Circle, a trip that drew newspaper attention along the route and became a story they loved to tell. Winters were spent in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and summers in Michigan, surrounded by children and grandchildren.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Ray. She was the proud and loving mother of Jon (Andrea) Hurst, James I. (Jennifer) Hurst, and Joel (Melissa) Hurst, and she and Jim opened their home and hearts to many “surrogate” children, among them are Alex (Karen) Onedo, Sheila (Harlei) Gomes, and João (Leticia) Carlos. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She is also survived by her brother, Bruce Ray, and countless dear friends and extended family.

Linda will be laid to rest in Kendall Cemetery following a private family service on August 6.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing Linda lived a life filled with purpose, adventure, and unconditional love. Her greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely, which will continue to inspire all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
