Margaret "Peggy" Rose Brandt, 79, of Mattawan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, at her home in Mattawan.
Born on July 22, 1945, in Hagerstown, Maryland, Peggy attended St. Marie Goretti Catholic High School, which marked her highest level of education. She was married to her husband, Pat for 41 years. Peggy and Pat met in Salem, Oregon, and following job opportunities, they moved from Portland, Oregon to Toledo, Ohio, where their son, Joshua was born. The family then relocated to Richmond, Virginia, Fort Wayne, Indiana and eventually settled in Mattawan, Michigan in 2001.
Peggy was a fierce advocate for their son Josh and the deaf community. She was deeply involved in his education, working tirelessly at schools as a teacher's aide to ensure he received the best possible education. Her dedication to his growth and well-being was unwavering and inspiring.
In addition to her advocacy, Peggy developed a passion for selling antiques and actively participated in the Allegan Antique Market from 2003 through 2023. Her love for collecting and sharing antiques was matched by her enthusiasm for birding. In her backyard, she created a special haven where birds were welcomed and fed daily, showcasing her deep connection to nature. For Peggy, gardening was a spiritual experience; it allowed her to connect with God through the simple act of immersing her hands in the soil.
Peggy and Pat also enjoyed riding motorcycles, which brought them closer together and enriched their lives with adventure. One of their most memorable rides was a journey around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with friends. They delighted in exploring local areas on various rides, making lasting memories along the way.
She is survived by her loving husband, Pat Brandt; sons, Joshua Brandt and Christian Markovic; daughter, Andrea McCoy; sister, Jean Cochran; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Penny and Reg Gipson and seven nieces and three nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Harry French and Jeanette (Curci) French.
In accordance with Peggy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
