On Sunday afternoon, July 5, 2026, Marissa Mion’s life was tragically taken from her.

Marissa is survived by her two children, whom she loved more than anything in the world, Eliana & Jovani; her loving brothers Brandon (Alicia) Mion, and Michael (Citlali) Mion; her parents, Lori and Joseph Mion; her nephew, Giuseppe; many close family members, including aunt, Cyndi (Steve) Thomas, and cousin, Josh (Ashley) Thomas, and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Robert & Nancy Boven and by her paternal grandparents, Remo & Barbara Mion.

Marissa was born to Lori & Joseph Mion in Plainwell on September 19, 2000, the youngest of her siblings. While in school at Mattawan, she met her lifelong best friends, Taylor & Natalie, who were like sisters to her, and excelled in track, specifically in the long jump.

Marissa was known first and foremost by being the most loving mother to her children. She welcomed Eliana into the world in December of 2018 and Jovani in September of 2024. They were everything to her and she adored being their mom. She lived and breathed for her children, and went above and beyond to be the very best mother, and she was. There was not a soul that knew Marissa that didn’t know how much she loved her children and how amazing of a mom she was. Additionally, she was a proud Zia to her nephew Giuseppe and a remarkable friend who touched so many lives with her laughter, tenacity, and kindness. She was exceedingly loyal and a friend to all.

Marissa loved to go shopping and enjoyed reading as well. She garnered a large following on social media from her love of GTA; Fortnite was another favorite video game of hers. Marissa was also proud of her heritage and member of the Sault Ste Marie Band of Chippewa Indians. She dreamed of one day visiting Italy where her paternal grandfather was born and spoke fondly of her travels to Puerto Rico & Florida. More recently, Marissa obtained her GED, got into cooking, started a fitness group, and was signed up to attend KVCC in the fall to get her associates degree in social work. For the last 2.5 years, she worked providing direct support services to adults with disabilities where she very much enjoyed taking care of her residents and bringing them on outings & to community events.

Her last day was a joyous day, spent surrounded by family on the 4th of July. Eliana jumped off the dock and swam in the water with her aunts & uncles, while Jovani hung out with his cousin & refused to nap because he was having too much fun. Marissa made a delicious banana pudding and the night concluded with a boat ride around the lake and a firework show. Her family is eternally grateful that her last day was the best day, and one spent together.

May she rest in peace, knowing that she will never have to fear for her safety again. She will forever be in our hearts as we carry on her legacy and support her beloved children. As a tribute to Marissa, her father has chosen “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars as a song of remembrance.

A private service for immediate family & close friends will be taking place at this time. A celebration of life will be set for a later date.
