passed away at home on Sunday, July 8, 2012 surrounded by his family. Mel was born April 13, 1935 in Jud, North Dakota, the son of the late Albert and Amelia (Elhart) Kalmbach. Mel was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Paw Paw where he served as an elder, as well as a former member of the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fixing everything, especially clocks which turned into a large collection as well. He worked for over 35 years as an electrician for the Village of Paw Paw where he was the supervisor for many years. After retiring from the village he enjoyed collecting trinkets and treasures from his part time work at the transfer station. Mel also enjoyed fishing and camping, but above all else loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. On June 28, 1957 Mel was united in marriage to his loving and devoted wife, H. Shirley (Nelson) Kalmbach, who survives. Also surviving are his 4 children, David (Tammy) Kalmbach, Daniel (Laurie) Kalmbach, Joyce (Daniel) Percival and Julie (Dan) Werner; grandchildren, Jessica, Nathan, Nicholas, Krystina, Dylan, Alex, Sheila, Shevonne and Sean; great grandchildren, Riley, Ella, Michael, Kaeden and Gavin; several nieces and nephews. Mel was preceded in death by a brother and 5 sisters. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 10:00-11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw where funeral services will follow at 11:00am, Rev. Ron Moritz officiating. Interment will follow, Wildey Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw or Borgess Visiting Nurses and Hospice, Kalamazoo.
