Philip Joseph Schlarman

Philip Joseph Schlarman, 68, of Mattawan, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.

He was born April 21, 1955 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Jerome Gerald Schlarman and Rita Catherine (Sigwarth) Schlarman.

Philip was very active in many clubs and organizations around the area. He was a member of the McGowan-Johnson Post #68 of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5855, Battle Creek Steelheaders and the Walter P. Chrysler Club.

He is survived by his step-children; Molly Howard, Claude Donham, two sisters; Elaine Wickler and Linda Henrickson, sister-in-law Sheila Turpin, brother-in-law Don Turpin, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Philip was preceded in death by his beloved wife; Donna Rae (Roberts) Schlarman.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1975-1979.

His education included a BA from Loras College in 1982, and graduated Maxima Cum Laude with Majors in Economics, Business, and Political Science.  He continued on to the University of Chicago where he was on the dean’s honors list and completed his MBA with a major in Finance and a minor Production Operations.

Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave., Paw Paw, where a funeral ceremony will commence at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Alan Jorgensen officiating. Philip will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, immediately following.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Richard Clark Scholarship Loras College, Dubuque, IA.
