Thomas S. McClung, 70, of Lawton, Michigan, passed away, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, service, and cherished memories.

Born in Rome, Georgia, Tom dedicated 30 years to serving as a police officer in Decatur and Lawton. Later, he spent five years as Head of Security for the Van Buren County Courthouse. Working in law enforcement was more than a job to him; he was known for the compassion, professionalism, and commitment he brought to his work. He treated people with dignity and understanding, and had a way of using humor to put others at ease. Tom took great pride in serving his community and was respected by his colleagues and the many people whose lives he touched.

Tom loved watching sports, especially golf. He enjoyed cooking, sharing food, and playing bartender to craft Manhattans for family and friends. Tom was a fantastic storyteller and often shared with memories of his early adult years in Las Vegas and his time working aboard a Southern Railway passenger train.

One of Tom’s greatest interests was politics and current events. He was always ready to debate about politics and world events. He enjoyed sharing his opinions, listening to the views of others (maybe not agreeing), and staying informed about what was happening in the world.

Above all, Tom loved spending time with his wife, Candy, and his daughter, Abbi. He enjoyed the long weekends they spent together in Chicago and the memories they created. He was especially proud of his new patio area and enjoyed showing it off to family and friends. Some of his happiest moments were spent there relaxing, laughing, sharing stories, and enjoying life with the people he loved.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Candy; his daughters, Abbi and Jessica; brother, Rickey; and his beloved granddog, Titan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Pearlyn McClung; his siblings, Patricia, David, and Tammy; and his father- and mother-in-law, Norm and Pat Carlson.
