Paw Paw

Ernest Paul Markovich, 101, of Paw Paw, MI, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on May 4, 2019. He was born on January 11, 1918,  in Lake Mine, MI, the son of Anthony and Paulina (Ozanich) Markovich.
Ernie graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1936 and went on to graduate from Western  Michigan University in 1949. In that same year he was united in marriage to his devoted wife of  nearly 70 years, Jean. He retired from the former Upjohn Co., in 1981, where he spent 31 years in medical testing. Prior to starting with Upjohn, he served five years in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he obtained the rank of first lieutenant in Army Ordinance. During that time, he was stationed in Wyoming, Texas, New Mexico and  Florida. An avid outdoorsman and sportsman; Ernie enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. In addition he enjoyed golfing, gardening, playing cards, photography, music, swimming, maintaining the bird feeders, keeping his homes landscape up to the highest of standards, and more than anything entertaining his family and friends. He loved the spring time when his favorite birds (orioles and humming birds) would return to his feeders.
Ernie was never one to simply sit and be idle, therefore he never hesitated to lend a helping hand without being asked, whether it was a church activity, a neighbor in need, or a grandson's lawnmower. Now, as helpful and kind as Ernie was, there are simply only two ways to do something...there's the Ernie way, and then there's the WRONG way. Ernie was a passionate man who devoted his life to God, Country, and his family and friends. His life spanned from the Model T Ford to the personal computer, cell phones, and the internet. His retirement was longer than his professional career and he drove until the age of 99. Ernie loved life and he lived everyday to it's fullest right up to the end. He will be dearly remembered by all the lives he was a part of throughout his very full life.
Surviving are his wife, Jean L. Markovich of Paw Paw, MI; Son, Ronald (Sandra Mabry) Markovich of Houston, TX, daughter, Kathy  Argo of Paw Paw, MI, Grandson's, Brian (Tracy) Argo and Mark Argo, Great-Grandchildren, Alex Argo, Evelyn Argo, and a host of nieces, nephews, and countless other loving family members and friends. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tony  Markovich, Joe Markovich, and sister, Olga Sophie.
Friends will be received at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Ave., on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:30pm by Father Joseph Xavier.
