George Arnold Smith

George Arnold Smith, age 84, of Mattawan, passed away Tuesday August 18, 2020 at his home.

He was born December 24, 1935 in Shelby, Michigan, the son of Ernest H. Smith and Velma L. (Porter) Smith.

George had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed going fishing and taking camping trips with the motor home. He was very talented with music and played the piano, organ and guitar. George was always very handy with repairing things as well as building things. Often he would build things without any instructions or direction. He was always available to lend a hand and would be offended if you did not ask.

On November 10, 1977, in Paw Paw, he married Phyllis Harrison Smith who survives.

He is also survived by his three sons, George A. (Helen) Smith Jr., Paul Smith and Christopher (Samantha) Smith; two daughters, Sheree (Terry) Standish and Violet (Scott Ward) Snow; step-son, Matt (Wendy) Brush; brother, Ernest Smith; two sisters, Anita (Al) Echavarria, Lillian Reynolds, along with a large extended family of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a private memorial gathering held at a later date.
