Peter Allen Montague

December 11, 1941 ~ June 23, 2020 (age 78)

Peter Allen Montague, 78 of Lawrence, Michigan, formerly of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020, after a long-fought battle with health issues.

Born on December 11, 1941, in Traverse City, Michigan, Pete was the son of William and Odessa (Mlujeak) Montague. His family lived in Traverse City during Pete's younger years, finally settling in Old Mission. Pete graduated from Traverse City Central High school in 1959.

Pete married Carol Andrus in 1962 and had three children. Pete raised his family while embarking on many employment opportunities that would include farming, store clerk, and insurance sales. Pete would find his true calling when he landed in agricultural chemical sales and marketing. Every place he landed, Pete found success and garnered an impressive collection of awards, along with hundreds of customers and colleagues who benefitted from his wisdom, guidance, and humor.

In his healthier years, Pete enjoyed singing with the Traverse City Barber Shop Quartet, golfing, and had a passion for classic cars and car models. He was proud to drive his red Impala convertible in car shows and parades. Pete was also known to get out his electric guitar and amp and play along to his Charlie Pride albums. Many a toy show will remember his presence, as will many car shows and parades. Pete was also passionate about his family, friends, and community.

Pete is survived, and greatly missed by his children, Pamela VanderMey, Dean (Rebecca) Montague, Chris (Trevor) Carlsen, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, his sister, Sharon Quintanilla and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Dennis, Terry, and Bill, son-in-law Richard VanderMey and great-grandchildren Kinzie, Jordan, Emily, and Katie.

Cremation has taken place and per Pete's request, there be no funeral or memorial service.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers or cards, memorial donations can be made in Pete's name to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or a local senior assistance program of choice.
