Dearly loved by family and friends, Steven Robert Ayres, 73, passed away on April 1, 2021, at Bronson Hospital. He was born July 10, 1947, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to the late Robert and Barbara Ayres. Steve attended Portage Central High School until the family relocated to Vicksburg. He was a talented athlete playing football, basketball, and baseball throughout his high school years. After graduation, Steve worked for National Waterlift, now known as Parker Hannifin Aerospace. He was a charter member of the UAW Local 1666 and held several positions in the local union including President. Following 20 years at his job, he joined the United Auto Workers as an International Representative and held this position for an additional 20 years, until retiring in 2005.
Steve and Pat were united in marriage on December 26, 1991. Retirement was good to Steve and Pat. They enjoyed traveling the United States on their Harley Davidson Motorcycle. They also enjoyed wintering at their home in Zephyrhills, Florida.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Robert Burton Ayres, mother, Barbara Jean Emerson and his son, Steven Todd Ayres.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Ayres, two daughters, Stephanie (Dave) Slutz and Heather (Charlie) Korteway; two brothers, Joel (Karen) Ayres and Randy (Colleen) Ayres; sister, Patti (Dennis) Smith; five grandchildren, Josh Ayres, Hanna Ayres, Nick Slutz, Carly Slutz and Jacob Steidle; great-grandchild, Kaison Steidle; nieces, Jennifer Ayres, Shelbi and Bayli Smith, three nephews, Jon Ayres, David (Jennifer) Ayres and Matthew (Cecilia) Ayres; four great-nephews, Quentin Ayres, Benjamin Ayres, Karter Ayres and Kalin Ayres, and one great-niece, Raquel Ayres.

Cremation will take place. There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice.
